Chakravyuh action director Abbas Ali Moghul says the action sequences in the film are very realistic and that each daredevilry is distinct.

"We have kept it very realistic, there was no use of wire-work. There are eight or nine major action sequences where bullets are being fired. But if bullets are being fired in all the sequences, then it becomes a challenge for the fight master to keep each sequence unique,"

Abbas said here in an interview. Abbas adds that he could accomplish the distinctness with the help of the movie's director, Prakash Jha. "If you move along with the director, then your action sequences will look different.

Otherwise in so many films we see the same type of action in different scenes, the same firing or blast scenes. But after talking to Prakashji, we treated each sequence differently," Abbas said. Abbas further says that all three male actors - Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpayee and Abhay Deol - were given equal amount of action to do.

"Everyone was taking an interest because it was like a competition between all three of them. All of them are good actors and all of them also wanted to do equal action because the story also demands it.

"Prakashji and I decided to divide action stunts equally among the three," said Abbas, who has worked on films like Agneepath, Dangerous Ishq and Once Upon a Time in Mumbai. Chakravyuh, based on the Naxalite (Maoist) movement, hits theatres this Dusshera Oct 24.

English Vinglish
After a sabbatical of 15 years, Sridevi has returned to do a meaty role in ‘English Vinglish’ and post watching the film, I have just one word for the actress - FLAWLESS!

Gauri Shinde has donned the director’s hat to tell the story of Sashi (Sridevi), a middle-aged Maharashtrian housewife who earns her own money by making sumptuous ladoos (which happens to be her passion too) and selling them to the connoisseurs. A lot of women would identify with Sashi since she is one of those dedicated yet taken-for-granted homemakers who are ridiculed for their poor linguistic skills by their English speaking family. In the movie, Sashi finds herself being an object of constant potshots by her husband(Adil Hussain), who has little respect for her real talent and her 7th grade daughter who feels ashamed to even introduce her mother to her school folks.

So when an underestimated and belittled Sashi flies off to New York to lend a helping hand at her niece’s wedding, she smartly grabs the opportunity to enroll herself into English speaking classes that promise to teach the language within a period of flat four weeks. In no time, Sashi becomes the most committed student in her class, starts watching English films at night and doing her homework religiously- all to polish her English reading and writing skills and more importantly to earn respect that she duly deserves from her family. In the midst of her literary pursuit, she also finds her classmate cum friend – a Frenchman (an irresistible Mehdi Nebbou) getting attracted to her plain simple personality. Yet, despite several barriers that come her way, Sashi manages to achieve her goal (that includes ordering her meal at the café with super confidence) which could be an inspiration to many aspiring English learners.

Going beyond the ‘ordinary’ story of ‘English Vinglish’, it is a movie that teaches a lot of life lessons. First, it gives a peek into the feelings of those who are not good at reading and writing the language and find themselves becoming a subject of disdain and jibe whether at home or in public. Second, it is a crash course on mannerisms for all those ‘refined’ husbands and children out there who believe that the woman of the house is only worth taking nonsense; notwithstanding the fact that she goes out of her way to please them, without a complaint. Third, like I said before, the film is all about dedication towards one’s aims and a relentless pursuit towards your dream, come what may.

Sridevi as the de-glam Sashi looks completely stunning and gets very much into the skin of her character in the film. The way she emotes when she is looked down upon for her poor angrezi is worthy of a good round of applause. It is safe to say that after ‘Sadma’, Chaalbaaz’ and ‘Chandni’, she will always be remembered for her versatile act in ‘English Vinglish’. Clearly, this movie is one of her best works till date.

Moving on to film’s direction, kudos to Gauri Shinde for narrating a story which leaves such an impact on the viewers. Also, a special thanks to her (she has also written the story) for making a film on such a unique storyline which apparently has a close connection to the life of Shinde’s mother and perhaps, many other Indian women out there.

Amit Trivedi has given cool and foot tapping music to the film while designer Sabyasachi has done his job very well in dressing up Sridevi in colorful khadi sarees that suit her age and role.

Overall, ‘English Vinglish’ is a complete family entertainer and worth every penny! Yes, Sridevi is back!

Rating: 4 cheers to Sridevi, Gauri Shinde and the complete cast for their perfect job!

Kismet Love Paisa Dilli
Director: Sanjay M Khanduri

Cast: Vivek Oberoi, Mallika Sherawat, Anshuman Jha and Ashutosh Rana

If you ever spend a Sunday morning at a sea face café in Bandra or a Friday evening at a bar in Lokhandwala, chances are you’ll effortlessly eavesdrop on a conversation that starts with Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels and ends with Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows. There are dozens of movie writers out there who want to make a movie like Guy Ritchie’s. Nothing bad in that. After all art imitates art. But sadly, not everyone knows what they’re talking about. Some are just punching way above their league. Sanjay M Khanduri, who made a good attempt with his first film Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, can now add his name to that woeful league.

Khanduri’s fascination for trains hasn’t changed though. The Delhi Metro plays a very important role in this film a la the Mumbai Local in his first feature. But that’s not the end of the director’s inspirations. His characters, their quirks, their madness and their edgy dispositions are straight out of a Ritchie manual. So are the absolute random ways that people talk, behave or get shot. But it’s all wonderfully well adapted to suit a Delhi milieu. Vivek Oberoi plays Lucky who is a typical Delhi born and bred roadside Romeo. His agenda for life is to find a soni kudi and possibly get lucky with her. Then there’s Mallika Sherawat who’s the hep and happening Delhi girl who has ambitions to rub shoulders with the rich and famous. And then there are lots of corrupt cops, politicians, gay fashion designers, social activists and local gangsters (who look like they belong to Brad Pitt’s tribe of gypsies from Snatch).

That’s not all. KLPD (name of the film, not a reference to a popular street acronym with explicit implications) also tries to be a dark comedy thereby reflecting upon the good, bad and ugly of Delhi’s underbelly. The scheming politicians, the ever ready for a bribe cops, the unsafe-for-women streets, the wannabe filmi romeos, the carefree sardar families, the uncooperative auto rickshaws, the hostile bus conductors, it’s all there. But it’s a goulash you simply can’t digest. If it’s a dark comedy why is there a slapstick exchange between the goons and sardars? If it’s slapstick why give your protagonist a sudden burst of patriotism and socialism? KLPD is unconvincing of what genre it’s trying to represent and it doesn’t help that the film is slavishly formulaic. Not to say all is bad. Ashutosh Rana and his Haryanvi gang of goons are fairly entertaining, so is Anshuman Jha in what looks like a cross between Bruce Lee and Jim Carrey.
But the honest attempts of Vivek Oberoi and Mallika Sherawat, to add some semblance of conviction to this loosely flung together film, are in vain. KLPD seems like the perfect way to sum up this film. Laws of self-censorship don’t allow elaborating the complete acronym so I’ll be safe and paraphrase just the last word, “Dhokha!” Watch this and you’ll get nothing but dhokha.

Earlier, Ileana D'Cruz was reported to have signed the film. Later, this was proven false after actress Nargis Fakhri was signed for the film. Although, soon after the signing, Fakhri was dropped from the project as Amitabh Bachchan was earlier to be playing her older brother in the film, but due to Bachchan being replaced by Mithun Chakraborty, the producers of the film felt she wouldn't fit the role of Chakraborty's sister. It was later reported that either actress Ileana D'Cruz would rejoin the project, or Diana Penty will be replacing Fakhri in the project. In June 2012, Asin was signed to play the leading lady of the film, putting all rumours to a stop.

Race 2 is an upcoming Indian action thriller film to be directed by Abbas-Mustan and produced under the Tips Music Films banner. It is the sequel to the 2008 hit film, Race, and stars an ensemble cast that includes Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez, Anil Kapoor and Ameesha Patel.

Director duo Abbas-Mustan's 2008 film Race was a box office hit. And not just because of the multiple stars, slick direction and edge-of-the-seat twists and turns. A large part of the credit goes to the foot-thumping number Allah Duhai Hai sung by Neeraj Shridhar and Sunidhi Chauhan that had the entire cast including Saif Ali Khan, Bipasha Basu, Akshaye Khanna, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor and Sameera Reddy grooving to it.

So much so the filmmakers are riding on the success of this song for their sequel to Race. It is learnt they have shot it last week with the same phrase, Allah Duhai Hai... and featuring Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez, Anil Kapoor and Ameesha Patel this time round. The other difference being Atif Aslam and Anushka Manchandani have lent their voices to it. Add to this the fact that the makers have made it bigger and better with many more dancers than the earlier version.

A source told TOI, "Producer Ramesh Taurani suggested retaining the phrase of the song used in the first part. Also, he has a very good taste in music, which is evident from the music in his films.
